the right of kings they called divine to own and rule all land
meant every farmer was consigned to war at their command 

the power of popes to steal the land with fire, stake and sword from those who made an honest stand
they claimed came from their lord 

and so bold men took to the sea to live outside false laws
that kept all those who would be free
enslaved for unjust cause 

{amazing grace how sweet the sound}
{that saved a soul like me}
{eye once was lost but now I’m found}
{was blind but now I see} 

and one of these proud privateers was forced by circumstance
to transport slaves for many years to keep his ship financed 
but then this pirate had a dream that showed him he must free
his human cargo from the scheme of worldly tyranny

though actions speak more truth than words
this man composed a song to voice the vision that occurred
to help him right the wrong
